Tenor Mr. Juho Punkeri

Juho Punkeri is recognized especially for his aptitude for early music and lied. Because of his musical background and beautiful, lyric voice, he is in demand as an artist and a musician.
Juho actively performs as soloist for example with the Finnish Baroque Orchestra, Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra and Tapiola Sinfonietta. Juho is also regularly having his own recitals with pianists Tuula Hällström and Maritta Manner. Together with Maritta they won the first prize in the Helsinki Lied -competition in 2015.2016 Juho graduated from the Sibelius Academy Opera Master’s Programme. He has also studied with vocal coaches such as Dame Emma Kirkby, Howard Crook, Andreas Schmidt, Elisabeth Werres and Marjut Hannula. With lied repertoire Juho has worked with Ilmo Ranta, Hartmut Höll and Martin Katz. His past opera roles are e.g. Orfeo (L’Orfeo, C. Monteverdi), Ulisse (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria, C. Monteverdi), Titone/Cefalo/Pan (Apollo e Dafne, F. Cavalli), La Theiérè/Le chat (L’enfant et les sortilèges, M. Ravel), Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte, W. A. Mozart). As a concert soloist, he has performed for example Messiah (Händel), Requiem and Great mass in c minor (Mozart), St Matthew passion (Bach). In 2017 Juho was a finalist in The International Singing Competition for Baroque Opera Pietro Antonio Cesti in Innsbruck, Austria. In 2013 he won the special prize in the National Lappeenranta singing competition.In 2018 and 2020 he performed at the Innsbrucker Festwochen für Alten Musik in the opera Apollo e Dafne by F. Cavalli and L’empio punito by A. Melani. Together with pianist Tuula Hällström, Juho has released recordings of Finnish art songs for the Finnish Broadcasting Company. In 2019, they also released an album of Finnish Christmas songs.
